The Robot Restaurant in Tokyo: sounds super awesome because robots are awesome and Japanese food is awesome and when you put them together it is a level of awesome not seen anywhere but the red light district of Tokyo. But don’t be fooled!! The Robot Restaurant reviews all say to eat before or after because the food isn’t great – which still leaves awesome robots so tickets re purchased.
Japan has a fascination with neon that the rest of the world left back in the 1980’s. It seems that anything neon has moved to Tokyo and has been scooped up by the Robot Restaurant. The entrance is the start of what you think is a retro fitted restaurant

But it is only the start of an experience that will completely blow all your senses out of the water (except for taste, because we’ve already eaten noodles before arriving and I don’t recommend the alcoholic bubble tea).
The path to the show is lined with lights and crazy wall designs.
It’s not long before the show starts and to sum it up in one word:
WTF!?!?
If anime was real life, I would imagine this is what it would be. The crowd are told at the beginning that there are 3 breaks during the show, mainly for popcorn sales, but after the first quarter – I don’t know if I can last the distance.
But it doesn’t take long to be a bit desensitised to the lights and volume and before you know it – there is a story line and even though I’ve paid for a seat, I’m only using the edge of it.
The robots are the kind of robots you would imagine there were back in the ’80s when neon was a thing. There are no robocops, irobots or wall-e type robots anywhere – and the show is more about the people dancing – even though I didn’t see anyone doing the robot.
