Anyone For Golf? Or Maybe A Swim?

I am staying about an hour outside of Cancun this week in the Mayan Riviera. My tent at the camp site I am staying at overlooks a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. For those of you who aren’t into golf, that won’t mean much – for those of you who know golf, you’ll know he is considered the best ever golfer on the planet. From my room, I can see the 18th hole – a tricky par 4.

I made a personal best on the course and threw my club almost 30 metres – it didn’t quite make it over the water hazard though, so I called it a day earlier and headed to the beach.

The beach is pretty flat – no surf at all and not very spectacular, but the locals are still out there every morning mowing the sand. This side of Mexico is the Caribbean Sea, so we are told to stay on the shore in case of pirates.

If you want to swim, that should be done in one of the many pools the camp site has. This is the main pool, it’s hard to tell but it is split level. This is the bottom level and towards the left of the picture there are two more levels above that are about the same size.

There are also some smaller pools that look good at night. I tried to take photos during the day, but I felt kind of creepy taking photos around the pool with everyone in their bikinis and speedos.

To give you a better idea of the size of the pool, I climbed one of the palm trees and took a picture of the whole complex.

Notice the Cirque De Soleil Theatre? Everyone at the camp ground gets free entry to the circus. I have never been to a Cirque De Soleil show before, but I must admit it is one of the fanciest circuses I have ever been to. They wouldn’t let me take any photos from the inside, but the big top itself was impressive. Below is the merchandise stand in the foreground and the big top in the back ground. The theatre itself is in a cenote (sink hole) which is full of crystal clear water which is what creates the reflections in the pic below.
