There was a chance that I would become a Giants fan, but it wasn’t meant to be. I am now a fan of the Baltimore Ravens!
I didn’t know what to expect at an NFL game after seeing how passionate people are about U10’s football. The crowd seemed big for the weather. It wasn’t raining, but it was cold.
The stadium is an old one. See the fences at the top? That is the back of the nosebleed section. It turns out, I was 3 rows in front of the fence on the other side of the stadium. It’s also old fashioned steps rather than an escalator to get to the top. I grabbed a beer and a hot dog and jogged up to my seat.
I had a good view of the whole field – and there is no roof, so I also had a good view of downtown Baltimore. The only problem was that 17 stories high, it is cold and windy. On the day, the weather was reported as being 6 degrees – but it felt like it was about to snow where we were sitting.
The game itself was scrappy and with a few minutes to go, it looked like I had backed yet another losing team. We were the tougher team though – we fouled a lot for unnecessary roughness (what sort of a penalty is that in a contact sport) and there was a little bit of push and shove between the two teams. Mainly from the Ravens though…
But with about 5 minutes to go, Flacco (the quarterback) threw this pass for a touchdown to tie the game at 13-13.
I was in for a close finish again. I have been lucky enough that all of the sport that I have watched here in the US has come down to the last minute.
You can see around the scoreboard that there wasn’t a bum on a seat. Everyone was up, cheering for the Ravens on the final play of the game.
After missing two attempts earlier in the game, Tucker finally kicked a field goal to win the match. Better luck next week St. Louis Rams….
