I saw that saying on a postcard once – and it made me think of you! Here’s my own postcard that I took a photo of. We all piled into our little boat and headed away from the city. We came across this stretch of beach and parked here for the day.
There was a palm tree behind me if I had taken the photo facing the other way, but the problem with hurricane season in the Caribbean is that at any point in time, in any direction it could be pissing down rain. We only had a few drops throughout the day though – the mountains off in the distance seemed to get most of the rain before it got to us. I managed to get sunburnt, so the clouds didn’t last too long.
Below sea level, visibility was much further than I can see without my glasses so it was OK for me. The water didn’t go and deeper than about 1.5m, so snorkelling was the water sport of choice for the day.
I had earned myself a nice day of relaxation. The day before, I had trekked 8 hours to see a waterfall. Well, actually, I trekked 2 hours to the waterfall, realised I left my camera in the car and went back to get it. If you do the maths, it turns into a pretty long day. The lady also forgot to say it is a proper bush walk to get there… so trust me to rock up in thongs and a singlet to hike the Cuban outback The tour guide of a group of Germans told me I should be careful without proper shoes as I jogged by him. I told him that these were my off road thongs and that he shouldn’t worry…
