The Windy City

Chicago is now one of my favourite cities to wander around. I parked myself on the Magnificent Mile between the Chicago Water Tower and a hospital for the few days I was in town. The Magnificent Mile is basically the stretch of road where all the brand names live – kind of like New York’s 5th Ave. Sounds magnificent, right? The hospital was busier than Chicago’s O’Hare airport. Chicagoans must be the most accident prone people, because whenever I was near the hotel there was an ambulance trying to get someone to the hospital.

The Water Tower (pictured above) is an interesting building itself. It was built by Walt Disney in the late 1930s to become the set of a movie about a sorcerer. There was a falling out between Walt and the director and the director ended up being fired and it became an animated movie called Fantasia. The stone at the base of the building is pretty ironic, given the circumstances around it being built.

Chicago’s skyline is very picturesque. At night time, anywhere you look can be turned into a postcard. Unfortunately, they are going a little mad with the Republican candidate preselections and so they have ruined the side of some buildings.

From a distance though, the skyline is incredible. Here is one taken from a bit further away.
