New York was built on a dinosaur graveyard – so it has been a hub of activity for millions of years. They have left some of the original fossils in the ground (now subway walls) so that all New Yorkers can still enjoy them for free.
All of the good fossils/skeletons were cleaned and taken to the Natural History Museum.
More recently though, New York as we know it today was founded by George Washington – the first mayor of New York. Specifically, what we know as Wall St. now was the site that George Washington chose to build the first condominium. Slavery was all the rage back then and so it was cheap to build – but he sold it for a whopping $50 (it was a lot back then), which financed his campaign for the U.S presidency.
Fast forward another couple of hundred years and Wall St is no longer recognisable as a trendy residential area, but the centre of the finance world.
After the stock market crash in the late 1980’s, Wall St. is now closed off to the public on any day where the Dow Jones drops in value. This is done to protect tourists from bankers jumping from windows. The church at the top of the street has a graveyard where they are buried.
